Frequently Asked Questions
What is Bug Balm used for?
Insect deterrent during hiking, camping, yard work, outdoor recreation. Works for mosquitoes, gnats, and biting flies. Not as strong as DEET for extreme conditions (swamp, jungle), but effective for moderate bug pressure.
How long does it last?
2-3 hours per application. Heavy sweat or water exposure reduces effectiveness — reapply after swimming or intense activity.
Can kids use this?
Yes. Citronella and eucalyptus are gentler than DEET for children's skin. Still test small area first to check for sensitivity.
What about Summer Balm?
Summer Balm combines Bug Balm + Sun Balm in one jar. If you need both insect and UV protection, use Summer Balm. If only bugs are the issue, Bug Balm alone is fine.
Does it smell strong?
Mild citrus-eucalyptus scent. Not overpowering like chemical repellents, but you'll smell it during application.
Bug Balm vs Similar Products
Bug Balm vs Summer Balm: Bug Balm is insect-only protection. Summer Balm adds zinc oxide for UV barrier. Choose Summer Balm for beach/sun exposure, Bug Balm for shaded trails or evening outdoor activity.
Bug Balm vs DEET sprays: DEET is stronger for extreme bug pressure but absorbs through skin. Bug Balm stays on surface, uses botanical deterrents, no chemical accumulation concerns.
